今月はお金を使いすぎないように、買い物を控えています。
I’m holding back on shopping so I don’t spend too much this month.
無駄な出費を抑えて、貯金したいです。
I want to save money by reducing unnecessary expenses.

中・上級

【衝動的（しょうどうてき）／衝動買い（しょうどうがい）】impulsive / impulse buying

セールを見ると、つい衝動的に買ってしまいます。
When I see a sale, I tend to buy things impulsively.
ストレスがたまると、衝動買いで気分を晴らすことがあります。
When I’m stressed, I sometimes relieve it by impulse buying.

【見栄を張る（みえをはる）】to show off / to keep up appearances

周りに合わせて見栄を張り、高い服を買ってしまいました。
I bought expensive clothes to keep up appearances with others.
見栄を張るためのお金は、後から後悔しやすいです。
Money spent just to show off is easy to regret later.

【身の丈（みのたけ）】one’s means / one’s level

身の丈に合った生活をすることが、安心につながります。
Living within your means leads to peace of mind.
身の丈を超えた買い物は、後で大きな負担になります。
Purchases beyond your means become a big burden later.

【かさむ】to pile up / to add up

年末はイベントが多く、出費がかさみがちです。
At the end of the year, expenses tend to pile up because of many events.
小さな出費でも、重なると意外とかさみます。
Even small expenses add up surprisingly when they pile up.

【財布の紐が緩む（さいふのひもがゆるむ）／財布の紐を締める（しめる）】to loosen / tighten one’s purse strings

旅行中は気が大きくなって、財布の紐が緩みがちです。
When I’m traveling, I tend to loosen my purse strings.
来月は出費が多くなりそうなので、今は財布の紐を締めています。
Since I’ll have many expenses next month, I’m tightening my purse strings now.
