【近況（きんきょう）】Recent situation / How someone has been

例文①最近の近況を手紙に書きました。I wrote about how I've been recently in my letter.

例文②久しぶりに友達の近況を聞きました。I asked my friend how they had been after a long time.

【手書き（てがき）】Handwritten

例文①手書きの手紙をもらって、とてもうれしかったです。I was very happy to receive a handwritten letter.

例文②大切な人には手書きでメッセージを書きたいです。I want to write a handwritten message to someone important.

【素直な（すなおな）】Honest / Frank

例文①手紙には素直な気持ちを書きました。I wrote my honest feelings in the letter.

例文②「ありがとう」と素直に伝えるのは大切です。It's important to honestly say "thank you."

【心をこめる（こころをこめる）】To put one's heart into something

例文①心をこめて手紙を書きました。I wrote the letter with all my heart.

例文②家族に心をこめてメッセージを送りました。I sent a heartfelt message to my family.

【便りがないのは元気な証拠（たよりがないのはげんきなしょうこ）】No news is good news.

例文①母は「便りがないのは元気な証拠だよ」と言いました。My mother said, "No news is good news."

例文②しばらく連絡はありませんが、便りがないのは元気な証拠だと思っています。I haven't heard from them for a while, but I believe no news is good news.

【心境（しんきょう）】State of mind / Feelings

例文①環境が変わって、今の心境を手紙に書きました。After my circumstances changed, I wrote about how I was feeling in a letter.

例文②久しぶりに会った友達に、自分の心境を素直に話しました。I honestly told a friend I hadn't seen in a long time how I had been feeling.

【音信不通（おんしんふつう）】Out of contact / No communication

例文①大学時代の友人とは、卒業してから音信不通になりました。I lost contact with my university friend after graduation.

例文②音信不通だった友達から突然手紙が届いて驚きました。I was surprised to receive a letter from a friend I had lost contact with.

【つづる（綴る）】To write down / To put into words

例文①家族への感謝の気持ちを手紙につづりました。I put my gratitude toward my family into a letter.

例文②旅で感じたことを日記につづるのが習慣です。It's my habit to write down what I felt during my travels in a diary.

【胸にしまう（むねにしまう）】To keep something to oneself

例文①その気持ちは伝えずに、胸にしまうことにしました。I decided not to express those feelings and keep them to myself.

例文②言えなかった言葉を、ずっと胸にしまったままです。I've kept the words I couldn't say to myself all this time.

【便りがないのは元気な証拠（たよりがないのはげんきなしょうこ）】No news is good news.

例文①海外に住む息子から連絡はありませんが、「便りがないのは元気な証拠」だと思っています。I haven't heard from my son who lives abroad, but I believe that no news is good news.

例文②祖母は「便りがないのは元気な証拠だから、あまり心配しなくていいよ」とよく言っていました。My grandmother often said, "No news is good news, so you don't have to worry too much."
