1. 芸人 (げいにん / Comedian)
日本のお笑い芸人は、ボケとツッコミのコンビが多い。
Japanese comedians often perform in pairs, with a "boke" and a "tsukkomi."
有名な芸人のネタを覚えて、友達の前でやってみた。
I memorized a famous comedian’s joke and tried performing it in front of my friends.
2. あるある (Relatable humor, common experience joke)
学生時代のあるあるネタを話して、大笑いした。
We shared funny "relatable school life" stories and laughed a lot.
「満員電車でリュックを背負っている人が邪魔になる」って、あるあるだよね。
"People wearing backpacks on crowded trains are annoying"—that’s such a common thing!
3. ダジャレ (Pun, wordplay joke)
「カレーは ‘辛れー’（かれー ＝からい）！」と言ったら、みんな笑ってくれた。
"Curry is ‘karai’ (spicy and tough)!" I said, and everyone laughed.
友達がダジャレを言ったけど、誰も笑わなくて、ちょっとしらけた。
My friend made a pun, but no one laughed, and the mood got a little awkward.
4. 爆笑する (ばくしょうする / To burst into laughter, LOL)
彼のギャグが面白すぎて、みんなで爆笑した。
His joke was so funny that everyone burst into laughter.
コメディ映画を見ていたら、予想外のシーンで爆笑してしまった。
While watching a comedy movie, I ended up laughing out loud at an unexpected scene.
5. 吹き出す (ふきだす / To burst out laughing, to spit out in laughter)
友達が変な顔をしたので、ジュースを飲んでいたのに吹き出してしまった。
My friend made a funny face, and I accidentally spat out my juice while laughing.
先生がまじめな顔でダジャレを言ったので、みんな吹き出した。
The teacher made a pun with a serious face, so everyone burst out laughing.
中級
1. ツボに入る (To find something extremely funny, to hit one's funny bone)
彼の変な動きがツボに入って、涙が出るほど笑った。
His weird movements really hit my funny bone, and I laughed until I cried.
友達の冗談がツボに入ってしまい、授業中に笑いをこらえるのが大変だった。
My friend’s joke was so funny that I struggled to hold back my laughter during class.
2. 吹き出す (To burst out laughing, to spit out in laughter)
面白い動画を見ながらジュースを飲んでいたら、思わず吹き出してしまった。
I was drinking juice while watching a funny video, and I accidentally spit it out.
同僚が突然ダジャレを言ったので、コーヒーを吹き出しそうになった。
My coworker suddenly made a pun, and I almost spit out my coffee.

彼はいつも皮肉っぽい言い方をするので、冗談なのか本気なのかわかりにくい。
He always speaks sarcastically, so it's hard to tell if he's joking or serious.
5. シュール (absurd humor)
英語の "surreal" は「非現実的」という意味だけど、日本語の「シュール」は「独特な笑い」にも使われる。
In English, "surreal" means unrealistic, but in Japanese, "シュール" is also used to describe a unique sense of humor.
あの芸人のシュールなネタは、わかる人にはツボに入るけど、わからない人には全然伝わらない。
That comedian’s surreal jokes really hit the funny bone for some people, but for others, they don’t get it at all.
上級
1. イジる (To tease, to poke fun at)
友達が「また同じ服着てるの？」とイジってきたけど、これはお気に入りだから気にしない。
My friend teased me, saying, "Are you wearing the same outfit again?" but I don’t mind because it’s my favorite.
バラエティ番組では、芸人同士が互いをイジるのが定番の流れだ。
In variety shows, it’s common for comedians to tease each other.
2. 滑る (To bomb a joke, to fail to be funny)
ダジャレを言ったけど、誰も笑わなくて完全に滑った。
I made a pun, but no one laughed—I totally bombed.
芸人でも、たまにネタが滑ることがある。
Even professional comedians sometimes fail to get laughs.
3. 自虐 (じぎゃく / Self-deprecating humor)
彼の自虐ネタは面白いけど、たまにちょっと悲しくなる。
His self-deprecating jokes are funny, but sometimes they feel a little sad.
「オレ、テストの点数ひどかったよ！」と自虐ネタを言って、みんなを笑わせた。
I made a self-deprecating joke, saying, "My test score was terrible!" and made everyone laugh.
4. オチ (Punchline, the conclusion of a joke or story)
オチが分かりやすいギャグは、みんなが笑いやすい。
Jokes with clear punchlines are easier for everyone to laugh at.
話のオチを言う前に笑い出してしまって、うまく伝えられなかった。
I started laughing before delivering the punchline, so I couldn’t tell the joke properly.
