■ 野良犬（のらいぬ）・野良猫（のらねこ）

この公園には、野良猫がよくいます。　There are often stray cats in this park.
昨日、家の近くで野良犬を見ました。ちょっとこわかったです。　Yesterday, I saw a stray dog near my house. It was a little scary.

■ ふん

droppings / poop

鳩のふんがベンチについていて、座れませんでした。　There was bird poop on the bench, so I couldn’t sit down.
公園のふんの問題がニュースになっています。　The problem of animal droppings in the park is in the news.

■ 吠える（ほえる）

to bark

夜、犬が大きな声で吠えていて、よくねられませんでした。　A dog was barking loudly at night, and I couldn’t sleep well.
野良犬が人を見ると吠えることがあります。　Stray dogs sometimes bark when they see people.

■ えさ

■ 荒らす（あらす）

to mess up / to damage / to raid

野生動物が畑を荒らしてしまい、作物が全部だめになった。　Wild animals raided the field and ruined all the crops.
ゴミがカラスに荒らされていて、とても散らかっていた。　The garbage had been messed up by crows and was very dirty.

■ 襲う（おそう）

to attack / to assault

クマが人を襲う事故が最近増えています。　There has been an increase in bear attacks on people recently.
野良犬に襲われそうになって、すごくこわかった。　I was almost attacked by a stray dog. It was really scary.

■ 追い払う（おいはらう）

to drive away / to chase off

猫がベランダに入ってきたので、軽く追い払いました。　A cat came onto the balcony, so I gently chased it away.
畑に来たイノシシを追い払うのは大変です。　It’s difficult to drive wild boars away from the fields.

■ 保護する（ほごする）

to protect / to rescue

けがをした野良猫を保護して、動物病院に連れていきました。　I rescued an injured stray cat and took it to an animal hospital.
絶滅しそうな動物を保護するために、法律が作られました。　Laws have been created to protect endangered animals.

■ えさ

野良犬にえさをあげると、集まってきてしまうことがあります。　If you give food to stray dogs, they may gather around.
公園で動物にえさをあげてはいけないというルールがあります。　There’s a rule that says you must not feed animals in the park.

■ 襲う（おそう）

to attack / to assault

最近、住宅地に出てきたクマが人を襲う事故が増えている。　Recently, there has been an increase in bear attacks on people in residential areas.
動物が人を襲う原因は、人間が自然を壊したことにもあると言われている。　It is said that one cause of animal attacks on humans is the destruction of nature by humans.

■ ゴミをあさる

to rummage through garbage

カラスがゴミをあさって、道がゴミだらけになっていた。　Crows rummaged through the trash, and the street was covered with garbage.
野生動物が町に来てゴミをあさるようになると、衛生面の問題が出てくる。　When wild animals come into towns to rummage through trash, sanitation issues arise.

■ 保護する（ほごする）

to protect / to rescue

絶滅の危機にある動物を保護するための国際的な協力が進められている。　International cooperation is underway to protect endangered animals.
野良猫を保護して、新しい飼い主を探す活動をしている団体がある。　There are organizations that rescue stray cats and find them new owners.

■ 絶滅する（ぜつめつする）

to become extinct

多くの野生動物が、森林伐採の影響で絶滅の危機にある。　Many wild animals are on the verge of extinction due to deforestation.
一度絶滅した動物は、もう二度と戻ってこない可能性が高い。　Once a species becomes extinct, it’s very unlikely to ever return.

■ えさ

観光地で野生動物にえさを与えることは、ルール違反になることがある。　Feeding wild animals at tourist sites is sometimes against the rules.
えさを与えすぎると、動物が人間に依存してしまうことがある。　If animals are given too much food, they may become dependent on humans.
