初中級
🟡 正直（しょうじき）honest / honestly
彼はとても正直な人なので、うそをつきません。 → He is a very honest person, so he never lies.
正直に言うと、この映画はあまり好きじゃなかったです。 → To be honest, I didn’t really like this movie.
🟡 本音（ほんね）true feelings
彼はみんなの前では元気そうにしているけど、本音ではとても疲れているらしい。 → He looks cheerful in front of everyone, but honestly, he seems very tired.
本音を言うと、この計画にはあまり賛成できません。 → To be honest, I can’t really agree with this plan.
🟡 内緒（ないしょ）secret
この話は内緒にしてください。まだ誰にも言っていません。 → Please keep this a secret. I haven’t told anyone yet.
彼がサプライズを準備していることは、彼女には内緒です。 → It’s a secret from her that he is preparing a surprise.
🟡 気まずいawkward
けんかした友達と会ったとき、少し気まずい雰囲気になりました。 → When I met the friend I fought with, it felt a bit awkward.
上司の前でミスをして、場が気まずい空気になりました。 → I made a mistake in front of my boss, and the atmosphere became awkward.
🟡 隠し事（かくしごと）something hidden / secret
彼は家族に隠し事をしているようです。 → He seems to be keeping something from his family.
子どものころ、母に隠し事をしてすぐばれてしまいました。 → When I was a child, I kept a secret from my mom, but she found out right away.
中級・上級
🟠 気を遣う（きをつかう）to be considerate / to pay attention to someone’s feelings
初めて会う人には、言葉や態度に気を遣うようにしています。 → I try to be careful with my words and behavior when I meet someone for the first time.
彼は周りに気を遣うタイプなので、よく疲れてしまうそうです。 → He is the type who always worries about others, so he often gets tired.
🟠 ぶっちゃけ / ぶっちゃけるfrankly / to speak frankly
＊カジュアルな表現です。友達同士や親しい関係で使う。ビジネスやフォーマルな場では避ける。
ぶっちゃけ、このプロジェクトはあまりうまくいっていません。 → Frankly speaking, this project is not going very well.
彼は飲み会で、上司への不満をぶっちゃけて話した。 → At the party, he frankly expressed his complaints about his boss.
🟠 ごまかすto deceive / to cover up
テストでカンニングしたことを先生に聞かれたが、笑ってごまかした。 → When the teacher asked if I cheated on the test, I laughed it off to cover it up.
失敗をごまかすより、正直に謝ったほうがいい。 → It’s better to apologize honestly than to cover up a mistake.
🟠 誠実（せいじつ）sincere / honest
彼はとても誠実な人で、約束を必ず守ります。 → He is a very sincere person and always keeps his promises.
誠実な態度で対応すれば、相手も信頼してくれるでしょう。 → If you act sincerely, the other person will trust you.
🟠 社交辞令（しゃこうじれい）polite phrase / empty compliment
「今度ご飯行きましょう」は、日本ではよく使う社交辞令です。 → “Let’s have a meal sometime” is often just a polite phrase in Japan.
彼のほめ言葉は社交辞令ではなく、本気だと思います。 → I think his compliments were genuine, not just politeness.
